Type A Event coordinated the Team Smile event held during the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas October 14, 2008.
About 300 children received dental exams, cleanings, X-rays and restorative care in portable dental units near the 18th hole at TPC Summerlin golf course. Team Smile, the Kansas City, Mo.-based philanthropic initiative that offers dental care for underserved children in conjunction with sports franchises and sporting events, provided the care. Las Vegas dentists, their staff, the University of Nevada-Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine and Colgate all contributed. "With the efforts of Willie Wilson Baseball, the Shriners, Give Kids A Smile, Henry Schein Cares, Henry Schein Dental, Colgate, DEXIS, Dentrix, and Septodont, the event was a wonderful experience for the children," said Dr. Bill Busch, Team Smile program director. "Everyone left with a smile on their faces."
September 13, 2008, the Kansas City Chiefs and TeamSmile held the third annual "Kansas City Oral Health Care Day." This dental outreach program included hundreds of metro-area youth, professionals from the dental field donating their services, and Chiefs players spreading cheer. In all, over 500 patients were seen as they received $440,000 worth of donated dental services.
Dr. Bill Busch, founder of TeamSmile stated, "Earlier this year with the help of Type A Event, the Royals, Willie Wilson Baseball and TeamSmile were able to treat 133 children with $104,000 worth of free dental work. Our goal was to quadruple that with this Chiefs event and I’m happy to say that we exceeded that!"
